Just got this from Mrs. Messier....not sure of the date when our award winners can go out on "animal rescue" but it sounds as if it might be a good story if Now Loading were there to tell it :)

Hawaiian Humane Society Voice for the Animals Language Arts Contest
Voice for the Animals is a contest celebrating animal shelters and encouraging the expression of love for companion animals. Moanalua High students claimed the top prizes with their compelling pieces.

• Kenji Zhang , Grade 9 Winner of Poetry division “Abandoned”
  
• Tracy Aquino, Grade 10 Winner of Essay division “Shadow’s Story”

The $150 cash award is nice but what is even “cooler” is both winners will also experience a day rescuing animals and investigating animal cruelty with one of the Society’s humane investigators. Read all three of their winning entries posted on the Hawaiian Humane Society website.

  1. Many of our students get involved with the New Year's Ohana Festival that will take place at the Japanese Cultural Center on Sunday, January 9, 2011.
     I chair the games committee so we always need a lot of help. If you are interested, I can see what the JCCH policy is on filiming at their events.
     
  2. We are also doing a short video conference with a middle school in Japan on Tuesday, Nov. 16 at 2pm.
     
  3. We have plans to do a few more, but I don't know when they will be scheduled.
  
  
• from Mrs. Mizue: For Winter Fantasy.... we will be presenting a check from moanalua high school for $3000. This year was a unique experience.... Megan Oshiro and Eva Long's brain child....thanks to the generosity of the school!

  1. Mrs. Messner, MoHS ESL teacher sings opera as a hobby and won a competition at the University of Hawaii
     
  2. Ms. Frankel also won a talent contest (I think for her dancing)
