So...here is my reflection on how STN 2010 went.
This year actually went really good. I'm glad especially since this is my last year! (unless I manage to come up with enough funds to chaperone next year!) Anyways, it was an incredibly successful year for Moanalua. PSA got an honorable mention, Andrew placed 2nd for his All-Platform Journalism piece on Peter, and best of all, the film side won 1st place for Sweet 16! It was an amazing moment when they announced our schools name; especially because they couldn't pronounce it. The entire school jumped up and Mitchel almost cried. He held it together until after the ceremony.
Besides the awards, everything else was fun as well. We successfully completed our Sweet 16 show, and it was one of our best ones ever. The packages were fantastic; the best we've had in STN in a long while. It was a bit stressful as the counter ticked down, but we made it with a few minutes to spare. My individual competition was Short Story. Although we didn't place, I think we did pretty good. The misinformation about the due time threw us off, but it's okay. As long as we finished in time.
Everything else was fun. Disneyland is always a blast, and we always have fun on the mall day. This was a successful run at STN and I expect next year to be even better! (so hopefully I can go!)
Check out our vblog that Andrew posted for video of the trip.

STN
Oh gosh! I'm really late, I was suppose to post this a few days ago, I'm in big trouble now. haha. I was going to post this the morning we left but I decided to back to sleep. Well anyways the STN trip was great and a fun experience for me. I enjoyed every single bit of it! I learned a lot, that will help me be a better broadcast journalist.
The plane ride going there didn't feel long at all, I actually stayed awake the whole time I was surprised. There wasn't any time to go to sleep by the time we got there, we went straight Disneyland. That was a fun day, I never though I would be able to go to Disneyland with all my friends with out any parents so soon. I like the fact we were in a big group thats was made the disneyland good. I got to ride a lot of rides, shop, take pictures and even taste the famous turkey leg.
After a long day at disneyland is was time to go sleep and get ready for SWEET SIXTEEN! The days started off slow just trying to find a story we had a couple ideas, from talking to the Freedom Writers people, to a runners who go to college on scholarship or any athletes who went to USC on scholarship, to talking to the new head football coach, and we settled to the how students traveled around the USC campus. Thanks to Mrs. Calistro found's help we found a story that ended up being our final idea. We thought we were good after filming but in the process of editing we realized that we had problems with audio so that held us back a a lot. After seeing and hearing most of the teams finishing it was pressure for me and my team to finish. After hearing the news that our packages wasn't going to make the show for sweet sixteen I was really upset but there was no one to blame, we tried to make the deadline but good news Tyler told us it'll be used in a different show just not entered to STN. But i never been so stressed while doing a package ever.
The next 2 days were break outs they pretty boring and I'm not going lie I caught myself falling asleep in every single one of them but I would wake up because it would be rude to just sleep like that. But going to the sessions were helpful because they gave us a lot of good advice when it came to the process of creating a successful package. And I recommend the future broadcaster to go, when they get their chance next year.
I forgot to mention that I had another competition I had to do called "CONVENTION RECAP" with Char Desha and Micah. We stared filming a day later than we should've but soon after we got to work. Me and Desha didn't go the meeting because we overslept but Char and Micah went and arrived late and forgot to get the entry envelope. The next they they both Destrie tagged along with them and they all got yelled at because they forgot to get the envelope. Mrs. S went to go and made things clear for us and everything was fine. Our video went better then we thought would, turned it in 30 minutes before deadline. We din't win anything for that but it felt good to finish and enter it in the competition.
The last 2 day we got to go shopping and we had a dinner at D&B with everyone that was fun, that same night while I was packing I realized that this trip is over and we were all leaving and going back to work, this trip didn't feel as long as I thought. I didn't want to leave, I wanted to this trip all over again.
I'm so lucky I got to experience this trip with everyone who went and everyone I worked with. I hope I get a chance to do it again next time :DDDD

March 6, 2010
oh my goodness, i was supposed to blog on the 6th but i totally knocked out. sooo, i thought we were gona be able to sleep in, but NOOOO.. we had this super session thing upstairs. we woke up, got ready and everything, then headed downstairs. honestly, i dont really remember anything during that session except for the guest speaker asking people to raise their hands if we've never seen him in our lives and everyone in my row sleeping. i couldnt wait for it to end so that we could go shopping, and im pretty sure im not the only one who felt that way. i had a nice little nap, then the time came.. the time that the super session finally ended! WOOOHOOOO! hahaha!
all of us headed outside and us hawaii kids took a picture by the big statue outside of the hotel. we waited for everyone then we walked through downtown disney to get to the other side where the shuttles were. we had a hard time putting our money into the machine to get our tickets. we took group pictures as we waited for our shuttle to come. we squeezed into the shuttle and headed to the block! we went shopping on our own and were supposed to meet at d&b's by 5:30.
my plan was to avoid stores that we have back home in hawaii, but that didnt work. i went to forever 21 first, haha. majority of the stores had junk things anyways. i swear.. marissa, ely and i went around forever 21 more than five times. we went in and out of soo many stores.
we went to eat at that chinese restaurant and the food was helllla good, but panda express is sooo much better. we just waited and chilled it in there for a bit before heading to d&b's. we saw the whole group walking together like a bunch of ducklings following the momma duck (mrs. s). we eventually caught up with them and waited to be seated. our whole group probably took up about 5 tables? marissa, desha, ely and i sat together on one table and since we all finished eating.. we got the frosty mug cup thing. that was absolutely delicious! but we were kinda cold after, lol. bad idea, right? after we paid for everything, we went outside and it was raining!
we had to walk through the rain alllll the way to the bus stop. we could see our breath! my two bath and body bags broke and everything felll out because the rain wet it -___- that was not funny at all :( and there were at least three cars who tried to splash us! the shuttle took forever to get there. i felt like we were waiting for over an hour. & when the bus finally did come, we had to squeeze because there were other people in the bus. it was a nice ride back to downtown disney listening to a little "love story" told by one of our very own couples amongst the group ;D
i absolutely hate having to go through bag checks, its such a hassle. i needed to do more last minute shopping for family before heading to the hotel. its so expensive, my wallet was crying >o<" i got ditched, and so did destrie.. so we went shopping together! we were rushing thinking that we had to be back at 9:30, but we saw mrs. s in Dstreet and she said be back around 10:30 so i headed to build-a-bear and decided to get a gift for someone special back home ^-^ its too sad that they replaced build-a-bear with vans in ala moana shopping center. the worker who was helping me stuff my hello kitty was kinda TOO HAPPPY, but she was adorable. turns out she was full filipino just like me. i liked her, she was very smiley. destrie was laughing at me doing that routine with the bear's heart. & when we were making the birth certificate, the little boy sitting next to me was laughing at us arguing. i love destrie! :D
we met up with micah and char at the candy store and headed back to the hotel. we made a small stop at the fountain and we all flipped a coin and made a wish, TWICE.. since SOMEONE's ahem* charina's! coin fell. lol. aw, i wish we didnt have to go back since it was our last night and all. once we got back to the hotel, we had a meeting in the chaperon's room for equipment then we started packing. i have no idea what everyone else was doing, but i knocked out.
STN was such a great experience. i'm extremely proud of mitchel and andrew, and all the hawaii schools who were mentioned during the awards ceremonies. way to represent you guys! great job! :D
well, i need to get back to studying. good night everyone & dream sweetly! love daryenne'noel ramirez <3.

STN
okay so i was supposed to do this last night, but i fell asleep and so yeah I'm doing it now. We are leaving today, and its about (:35 in the morning and all my roommates are still sleeping except for Daphne-Jayne, so Raena, Dary and Marissa are still knocked out haha . STN was a great learning experience and it helped me to become a better broadcast journalist.
My sweet sixteen competition went very good. My teammates were Bryan, Daphne, and Charina. Our story was on this place called pizza fusion and they serve organic pizzas and the whole restaurant is made out out recyclable materials. It was an hour drive to that place it was in LA. and the traffic coming back was horrible. Everyone in our car fell asleep the whole ride back to the hotel except for Ren. We finished our video and about 30 minutes before the deadline and it was a good package, it was edited all in about 6 hours, thanks to Bryan. Waiting to put all the packages into the show was so scary ! because time was counting down and we still had export the whole show, put it on the flash drive then take it up stairs to turn it in. Some people were running to turn it in, haha. but we slowly walked. and we were all happy that we finished.
My other competition i had to do, was convention recap. My team was Micah, Char, and Raena. We had a late start and we got into some trouble because of waking up late and missing our meeting for our competition. In the end our video came out good, but we didn't win anything.
The first day that we got here we went to Disneyland and California adventure park, and i had motion sickness for the whole day but it didn't stop me from riding the scary rides like the California screamer? and the tower of terror? haha it was so fun, this was my first time at Disneyland and i liked it a lot.
okay well, i have to finish packing, this is Desha Garcia for now loading :)

So, I'm doing this kind of late-ish because it's been hard getting time to use someone's computer but ANYWAY most of the breakouts were honestly very very very boring but I did learn a few valuable tips for future packages from a couple of them. I learned by keeping the camera away from the interviewee while interviewing them makes then less nervous & more prone to feeling comfortable in speaking to you and going into more depth then they would normally do if the cameras and lights were up close to them. I also picked up how to ask questions and what not ask questions when doing a sensitive subject. Unlike most of the students that were sitting/sleeping in the "sensitive subject" breakout I actually enjoyed that one the most besides Les Rose but I feel I got more out of it than any of the other breakout sessions. I also had to do a competition for the Promotional Announcement, which I wasn't as proud of as I would have liked to be but my team and I were so tired and out of it we were just glad we came up with a good sequence and got it in before we were disqualified. It was so nerve-racking though! We had to do all the filming before 10:30 or at least do most of it and check-in the editing room by then but everyone else was busy doing their own thing & in the meantime we needed them for our competition or at least the ability to film them which felt impossible but we got it done in the end but we had a malfunction with our firewire so we could not import our VO's and then FinalCut kept crashing on us so we were freaking out but we got through it! Finally, we had the film fest&music video showings, I was sooooooo proud of Hawaii and our school as well even though we didnt win first but winning is winning so I was still "CHEEEHUUUUU"-ing. To top the night off, we went to the rainforest cafe and thanks to Mrs. S we all got discount on our food & I got to eat because I forgot my money in the hotel room :) btw, THANKKYOUU MISSSS! Overall, it was an amazing and insightful day! Well gooooodnight bloggers*

I haven't posted yet so luckily i was reminded today to do it.
STN is such a blast! I love everything about this trip. From the weather to the amusement parks, I'm having so much fun on my first trip to California! It's what i imagined, since I'm planning to go school here. Well, going back to what I'm supposed to be talking about. On Wednesday was what we've been practicing for since beginning of the school year, Sweet 16. Sweet 16 was awesome! In the beginning was really stressful because at first my group, Niki, Cyn, & Jonas, had great ideas for our package but they all got dropped because it was hard to get in contact with so many people. There was so much tension and stress to find a package, it took us about an hour and a half to find a story. When we finally did we got straight to it and finished it on time. As always there were technical difficulties. We couldn't get the VOs to log and capture on the laptop so we had to do it again. When it came down to line producing which Tyler was doing everyone got their packages in expect for Robynn's group. But its alright, we all ended up having a great time. The one moment i'll always remember was the moment that we were waiting for the show to convert into the flashdrive. We all were gathered like a family & it made me feel like this is what were really here for to really show & represent what we can do is to be broadcasters. I'm really excited for next year to sweat more bricks. ;D

So far, so good (:
So, i'm updating for FRIDAY, MARCH 6 (:
Lets see, today we woke up around 8 am and got ready for breakout sessions. I went to 3 breakout sessions today, one by Carlsbad high school about producing a well-done quality show even when you have no money, the secret ingredient to an award winning package (secret was finding the "right character"), and strange or funny or both by Les Rose, which was a really good one about people with very "odd" stories, but funny thing, these are the stories that capture the audience the most! :)
Anywho, besides the breakout sessions, we helped others that had their competitions today with few suggestions with VO's and stuff like that. For example, Niki and Andrew in the "All Platform" competition, I'm really proud of them :) turned out great, as well as everyone else today!
After all the breakouts, we went to dinner at Coco's. We took a long walk in the COLD, maybe 5-10 minutes away from Disney hotel. It was really yummy, I had a shrimp-scampi pasta. However, my eyes were too big for my stomach and I didn't eat much and had to waste my food because we couldn't take it back to the room considering the fact we have no microwave in the room :( What a waste of money -___- Anyways! After the dinner, we went back to the hotel for the STN Film Festival and Top Ten Music Videos.. The excitement was rising in everyones stomachs as they played the music really loud before it started and every sang along, it was fun :) I love this part of the convention because it's really enjoyable to watch other school's films and music videos and to see their perspective of things and how they produce things. Congratulations to Ren, Tyler, an Mitchel for making it into the finals! Although we didn't win, I'm pretty proud of those films (The Briefcase and Gone) they were super good :) Sadly, we didn't place for our music video but that's okay, I know we tried our best and it turned out pretty good :) If I find out how to post it, i'll post it up here :) Until then, that's all for now...
Awards ceremony is tomorrow, so we need to wake up early :( It's well worth it though, SHOPPING TOMORROW!!! That's the best part :) Haha! Just kidding, goodnight! It's late here.. time for bed :) BYE!
Live from STN, this is MEGHAN CADAOAS signing off :)
March 3, 2010-Sweet 16
hey hey hey hey!!!!!
It's Destrie and Charina blogging about the amazing spectacular Sweet 16 competition....NOT!!! nah nah just kidding! so this blog is kinda late! At first, we made a vlog, but our lighting was really bad so you couldnt see anything...so we'll just blog about it. So we woke up at like 6 something that morning, went to downstairs to the briefing, where we found out the word that we had to create our Now Loading episode on. So the word we picked was "Movement." We broke into our groups and started working. Destrie's group went to a place called "Curves" and Charina's group went to a place called "Pizza Fusion." Then we all came back to the hotel, into the ballroom, and edited our packages. So our deadline was at 11 P.M. and we finished with like 5 minutes to spare! We(all the broadcasters) walked/ran up to the place where you turn in your show. We've never seen sooo many people running up and down escalators and stairs. So we turned it in at the same time as Film as Art so we jumped up and down and screamed and danced. Then we watched the show and some people thought that was our best show of the year..but yeah overall we think our first time at Sweet 16 was good because we had fun..so we have a video of our victory march, enjoy(:

STN convention 2010, 3/5/2010
Today is the 5th day of being in Anahiem California, and the 4th day of being part of the STN convention. Today was all about going to break out sessions and for some people competitions.
Today I was awaken by the loud noise of my roomate's alarm and my own bear being thrown at my face:P. Afterwards I went to my roomate's room and waited till 10:30 to attend the break through sessions. I went to like 4 sessions today: To be truthful I forgot their names but one was about Stand ups, When to use certain words (cliches and etc), knowing if a broadcast journalism college is right for you, and my favorite session where we learned about scripting, better audio, and better editing. I learned in all the 4 sessions is that, broadcast journalism major isn't my path in life but just something I enjoy as a elective and being part of at school. I learned that you should making your stand ups dramatic makes your viewers more intrigued. I learned that if you have no audio or great audio then your package is incomplete even with good graphics and broll.
After the sessions the sophomore class of 2010 went out to eat dinner with Mrs. Sueoka. Thanks Mrs. Sueoka BTW, for paying for majority of the food and taking the time to eat dinner and chill with us:D After dinner we went to the STN Music/ Move Film Fest. I really wanted to see Tyler's or Mitchel's film play or win but atleast they were finalists ! I really enjoyed one of the music videos and I really liked the film Custoday.
Now I am in my room after a long day doing this blog and my other HW[:

Friday March 5th
So today we basically went to different break out sessions as well as help out our classmates who were in competition today. The break out sessions were pretty good, but one sticks out in my head: Carlsbad HS's session. The session was about how they make things work at their school on a "low" budget. They made their own set with wood and frosted glass, and it was really nice and professional. They even made their own prompter using a flat monitor and a picture frame. THAT is exactly what we need. They say their classroom is so small and they have no money for that great of equipment, but when they showed us their room, it was HUUUUUGE compared to ours. They think they have it hard, try using cameras that need duct tape to function =P
Anyway, what I got out of that session was how to keep our class on track. They have a daily point system where you get points for attendance, products, and activities you do in class (editing, audio, camera, tech, anchor etc). That way, kids will be productive to earn points.
We also had the film festival today. It was okay. Some of the videos were really good. Its crazy how high schoolers can do the things they do with technology. Sadly we didn't make top 10 music video but its okay! Mitchel's "gone" and tyler and Ren's "briefcase" were finalists for best cinematography. We're so proud of them!
Anyway its like 11:30 right now and I'm pooped. We have an 8am break out session and I still need to shower! =___________= If only we didn't have to wake up early.....

DAY 1- (A day late)
Woops! So, I was kind of in charge to blog about day 1 yesterday with kelly & micah & daphne but I was sooo tried yesterday I couldn't find the time to blog...AT ALL. Normally I'm NEVER too tired but I guess I was. Heheheehe anyway, lets pretty it's day one shall we?
Ok, so, once we got off the plane, the "DRAMA" started. hahahahahahaha! My phone got lost on our way of the airplane after arriving at LAX. I was crapping bricks out of my BUTTTT! BUT THANK GOD! Mrs. S is the best! She was kind enough to go back on the airplane and search the floor for my phone...jeeze. Just thinking about how scared I was is making me scared now...alright. Let me change the subject.
So after all my freaking out was over, we arrived at the hotel. I was soo glad we had time to rest cause I needed. Especially if I was planning to ride a bunch of rides *today*! We went to disneyland later that morning and I had a BLAST! Majority of time i hung out with Micah, Ely, Charina, Kelly, & Cynthia. It was suuuper fun! We took amazing pictures! I'll upload some underneath. I promised to make my blog detailed but I'm tired :(
We had LOADS of FUNNN!!! I'm glad I got to ride every ride I wanted to before I left. :)
I would talk about today but hehehe I'll let the other people blog about it. :)

I'll upload some underneath. I promised to make my blog detailed but I'm tired :(
We had LOADS of FUNNN!!! I'm glad I got to ride every ride I wanted to before I left. :)
I would talk about today but hehehe I'll let the other people blog about it. :)
