Bingo Follow Up

The stories shared in the People Bingo exercise were good ones. So lets leverage that activity for the most benefit for our show.
Go to one of the people who filled in a "story square" and get their story. Then, post the story as a comment on this blog, as a possible story idea for future shows.
Be sure to get info on the following:

1. The focus of the story
   
2. The "human face" of the story
   
3. The wider context
   
4. The possibilities for "going deep"--issues or controversy, wider context and ability for your audience to identify with subject, etc.
   

Be sure that you do not duplicate any of the subjects here.
Story Squares:

• I am passionate and knowledgeable about a topic and have a human story to tell about it.
  
• I have an issue that I would like to investigate for “Now Loading.”

Just got this from Mrs. Messier....not sure of the date when our award winners can go out on "animal rescue" but it sounds as if it might be a good story if Now Loading were there to tell it :)

Hawaiian Humane Society Voice for the Animals Language Arts Contest
Voice for the Animals is a contest celebrating animal shelters and encouraging the expression of love for companion animals. Moanalua High students claimed the top prizes with their compelling pieces.

• Kenji Zhang , Grade 9 Winner of Poetry division “Abandoned”
  
• Tracy Aquino, Grade 10 Winner of Essay division “Shadow’s Story”

The $150 cash award is nice but what is even “cooler” is both winners will also experience a day rescuing animals and investigating animal cruelty with one of the Society’s humane investigators. Read all three of their winning entries posted on the Hawaiian Humane Society website.

  1. Many of our students get involved with the New Year's Ohana Festival that will take place at the Japanese Cultural Center on Sunday, January 9, 2011.
     I chair the games committee so we always need a lot of help. If you are interested, I can see what the JCCH policy is on filiming at their events.
     
  2. We are also doing a short video conference with a middle school in Japan on Tuesday, Nov. 16 at 2pm.
     
  3. We have plans to do a few more, but I don't know when they will be scheduled.
  
  
• from Mrs. Mizue: For Winter Fantasy.... we will be presenting a check from moanalua high school for $3000. This year was a unique experience.... Megan Oshiro and Eva Long's brain child....thanks to the generosity of the school!

  1. Mrs. Messner, MoHS ESL teacher sings opera as a hobby and won a competition at the University of Hawaii
     
  2. Ms. Frankel also won a talent contest (I think for her dancing)
