- your mentors will have a record to use as they assist in your training
- and mrs s will have a set of standards with which to grade your package!
Be sure to include your name and your partner's name in the notes.
This is DUE ON January 21, TODAY.
Remember: "Show me something I can't see; take me somewhere I can't go..."

does chewing gum help improve test scores.
investigative journalism
B: what is a palcebo?
M: testing of experiment
E: test results
NOTES:
start off with question montage "what do you do to help you do better on tests?"
do research on if chewing gum actually works
set up in a way that wont distract the students
get intervies of students before and afer tey are tested.
Hi Robynn and Kellyann,
Congratulations on being the first to follow up on your hot seat session!
One important note: You need to proceed very carefully with the ethics issue. I still question the "before and after" interview part.
I am going to require the you set up a meeting with the teacher and with you and your partner and your mentor and me (5 people, in other words) to get all of these things clarified before we proceed on this package. I think that will help to insure there will be no "plan B" necessary later :)

Story: Year of the Tiger- and lions?
The art of lion dancing celebrated on Chinese new year kicks of the Year of the Tiger.
-Popular Culture
B: What is lion dancing ?
M: The meaning of lion dancing and how it relates to its culture of the Chinese New Year.
E: Feeling of merriment of lion dancing celebrating Chinese New Year.
Notes:
-The story of just the culture of Chinese New Year is too broad and more the "about". But focusing it on Lion dancing for the Chinese New Year is much more focused and to the point.
-A lot of people that do lion dance. (Sunny, Leon, etc). CONTACT!
-Broll:
The dance of course! Practicing and the actual show.
Facial expressions of the crowd (close ups)
Very interesting opening/closing shots (inside the lion!).
A lot of NAT sound like the drums, counting, bells, chanting, jumping, teaching, people cheering, etc.
Hot Seat & Blog Assessments,
Bryan & Andrew: Looks good...and, yups, those sound pops will be the thing to work on.
Daphne and Cynthia: Lots of "homework" and set up to do very quickly. Have you already contacted someone to interview and made arrangements to tape their practices?
Robynn & Kellyann: 10/10
Andrew & Bryan: 10/10
Daphne & Cynthia: 10/10
Everyone else after this will get a 10% reduction in points.
Reminder: Final pitch due Monday 1/12

Show 56 Pitch
Pop Culture/ Investigative Piece--How Formspring is contributing to cyberbullying.
B- How the website Formspring is becoming popular among teens.
M-How the website is being used wrong.
E- How the website is contributing to cyber bullying, and how it is hurting some people's feelings.
NOTES:
Be sure the ending "how it is hurting people" is effective and really shows how the website is being used wrong.
For Broll get actual footage of hatful thing on the website, so viewers can see the website.
Try to get real emotion in the interviews.
and of course GET 'ER DONE!!!!!
Daryenne & Marissa's Pitch
Hot Seat: Show 56
Story: Larawan Youth Ensemble (feature/character piece ?)
B: About the club, what exactly do they do
M: How it all began from the very beginning
E: Reason to preserve the Filipino culture
Notes: Cool to have someone who break dances and also does Filipino dance, having the two dances be like two different worlds. Get B-roll of him breakdancing then show him dancing filipino folk dance.
Late Hot Seat and Blog Assessments:
Destrie and Desha: You've got a solid beginning, middle, and end. But you really need to find that person who will exemplify your focus. You will also need very good tech to be able to show the website clearly. And don't forget...you must distinguish this from MySpace and such...
Parallel with your sequencing of the impact of formspring through beginning middle and end is, I think, the creation of a formspring--beginning, middle, and end...with the end being what people fill in on the "form" and also how that form impacts people.
Late Assessment Score: 10/10 = 9/10
Daryenne and Marissa: It is imperative that your pitch focuses on a story. Right now, the piece is "about the club" and that will not cut it as a package.
I think your blog notes needed to include more about our whole discussion of finding that story, that character, and going beyong the "about."
Late assessment score: 7/10 = 6/10

Ms. McLaughlin created the vegitarian club at our school. Our focus is on how the club inspires students to go veg.
B: What is a vegitarian?

E: Her inspiring her students.
NOTES: We should take the end and put it in the beginning. We need to know how successful the veg club is. For b-roll we could show students meeting in the classroom. We have to get an "OKAY" to the story by her. Find out what do they do at their meetings. Get shots of posters. Come up with solid questions and do RESEAAAARCH!

Charina & Ariel: notes look complete...but I hope by the time you posted them, you'd already completed all the prep tasks.
Late assessment score: 10/10 = 9/10
Jonas & Justin: You have some of the basic points brought up in the hot seat but there was more...the blog is mainly an exercise to be sure that you take good notes and, more importantly, apply them, when you are producing the package.
Late assessment score: 8/10 = 7/10
Niki & Ely: Your team has posted the basics of what you'd bring to the hot seat. However, you also need to post the notes from your meeting with your mentor. Those are very important in package production.
